Maranatha High School Gospel Fest
Published: January 3, 2010

The Maranatha High School hosted a "Gospel Fest" at the Tropicana Show & Supper Club on Saturday December 5, 2009. The purpose of the event was to raise funds to aid the school in its operations. The financial downturn in the Turks and Caicos Islands has drastically impacted private educational institutions; hence Maranatha High looked for a creative way to offset its expenses.

There were a wide variety of artists who performed at the event. Some of the memorable ones were award winning artist Katanya "Nikki" Blake, Barbara Johnson "song bird" of the TCI and The Redeemers from the Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church. The event also featured the Maranatha High School Choir. It was the first time the choir sang in public and the audience were in awe when they heard the melodious singing of the students.

The main performer for the event was Singing Evangelist Claude Edwards from Kingston Jamaica. During his performance Mr. Edwards paused to encourage the parents to train their children in the right way and to point them to God. He told the parents that they should be good Christian role models, so that their children will have someone positive to emulate.

Claude Edwards′ final performance for the night was the beloved song Beulah Land. The audience left the concert with a longing in their hearts for Jesus to return and take them home.

Marlon Sinclair, organizer of the event said, "The concert was a new and learning experience for Maranatha, with a few mishaps and low crowd turn-out; the fans however enjoyed inspiring gospel music and great encouragement from the performers."

The Maranatha High School seeks the support of all who believe in the value of Christian Education.
