Impact of TCI

Christian Leader Training

1 Theological Education and Leadership Training

Christian Leader Training

Since its founding in 1997, TCI has trained over 2000 students from Ukraine and Central Asia. Currently, more than 250 students are enrolled in BA, MA, and certificate programs, many of whom are actively serving in local churches while pursuing their studies. The flexible structure—comprising residential, modular, and online components—has enabled TCI to continue its mission even during the war. In 2024 alone, 62% of students were studying online, ensuring that education remained accessible for those displaced by conflict or living abroad.

Support for Churches in Wartime

During the last three years of full-scale war, TCI graduates and students have served in over 100 churches across Ukraine. Many have become key leaders in communities hit hardest by shelling, displacement, and loss. Through TCI’s network, these churches are not only providing worship services but also distributing aid, offering trauma counseling, and assisting displaced families in their resettlement. For example, in 2022-2023, TCI graduates helped coordinate relief efforts that reached more than 10,000 people with food, shelter, and spiritual care.

Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care

Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care

Currently, over 30 TCI students serve as chaplains in the Ukrainian armed forces and hospitals. These chaplains minister to soldiers, provide funerals for fallen heroes, and support grieving families. To strengthen this ministry, TCI is launching a new MA in Chaplaincy in 2025, with an initial cohort of 30 students. This program will create a sustainable pipeline of trained chaplains to serve Ukraine’s ongoing needs in the military and beyond.

Next Generation Christian Formation

Next Generation Christian Formation

More than 80% of TCI’s student body is under 30, showing that the Institute is successfully raising a new generation of leaders. These young Christians are being mentored and trained to become pastors, missionaries, and youth leaders. Many alumni are already multiplying impact: some are planting churches in western Ukraine, while others launched a youth ministry and discipleship movement that now reaches over 1000 teenagers each year. Donor support ensures that these young leaders can pursue education even during wartime.

Regional Reach Across Central Asia

Regional Reach Across Central Asia

Today, about 50% of TCI’s student body comes from Central Asia and South Caucasus. Due to government restrictions and limited access to Christian training in these regions, TCI is one of the few institutions offering formal theological education. TCI students there are returning home to strengthen underground churches, translate materials, and train local leaders. TCI providing online modules to some students who would not have been able to pursue theological studies in their own countries otherwise.

Resource Development and Partnerships

TCI recently received a gift of 20,000 theological books from international partners, dramatically expanding its library and research resources. The library now houses over 25,000 volumes, making it one of the best theological libraries in Ukraine. In addition, TCI maintains active partnerships with the stateside and European institutions. These partnerships have led to joint publications, scholarships, and visiting faculty exchanges, ensuring students benefit from both Ukrainian and global perspectives.
